Welcome to 4-H!

If you've never heard of 4-H, think of it as a place where young people learn by doing, try new things, build skills, make friends, and discover what they can do.

Just like a Mario adventure, every 4-H journey has new levels, challenges, power-ups, and memories along the way.

Every 4-H'er gets to create their own adventure and their own story.

The 2026 North Carolina State Fair theme, “A Memory Worth Making, A Story Worth Telling,” reminds us that the best stories are built from the experiences we have along the way.

Come Through the Warp Pipe!

In Mario, a Warp Pipe takes you somewhere new. In 4-H, stepping through the pipe can mean stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new.

Maybe you join a club, try a new project, speak in front of a crowd, or take on a challenge you've never faced before.

You never know what you'll find on the other side.

Come through the Warp Pipe, find your 4-H power-up, and start your adventure!

The Mystery Box: Find Your Power-Up

Just like Mario never knows what will pop out of a mystery box, you never know what a new 4-H experience might bring.

For us, the mystery box holds the ultimate 4-H power-up: the 4-H clover!

The four leaves of the clover represent the ways 4-H helps young people grow:

HEAD — To clearer thinking
Learn to think, solve problems, make decisions, and try new things.

HEART — To greater loyalty
Build friendships, work with others, and care about your community.

HANDS — To larger service
Use your skills to help others through leadership, service, and hands-on experiences.

HEALTH — To better living
Develop healthy habits and learn how to care for yourself.

Head. Heart. Hands. Health.

That's one powerful power-up!

Get Another Power-Up: Join a 4-H Club

Look for the flower power-ups throughout our display. Each flower represents a Wilson County 4-H club.

Joining a club gives you another way to power up your 4-H experience. Clubs give youth a place to meet people, explore interests, work together, take on projects, and make memories.

Find a club. Join the adventure. Power up your story.

Collect Your Coins

In Mario, coins are collected throughout the adventure. In 4-H, youth collect something even more valuable: skills, traits, and lessons that stay with them.

Our coins represent things like:

Communication • Teamwork • Responsibility • Leadership • Confidence • Creativity • Problem Solving • Perseverance

Every project, meeting, competition, camp, and activity gives you another opportunity to collect a coin.

The more you experience, the more you grow.

Watch Out for the Piranha Plants!

Every adventure has obstacles.

Our Piranha Plants represent the challenges 4-H'ers face along the way.

Maybe something doesn't go as planned. Maybe you're nervous to try something new. Maybe you make a mistake.

4-H gives youth a place to work through those challenges, learn from them, and keep moving forward.

Sometimes the obstacles become some of the most important parts of the story.

Pick Your Character. Make It Your Adventure.

Every Mario adventure needs a character, and every 4-H adventure is different, too!

Step into our Mario-themed photo booth and choose your character: Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, or Toad.

Each character brings something different to the adventure, just like every 4-H'er brings different interests, talents, and personalities to 4-H.

There isn't one right way to experience 4-H.

Choose your character. Make your memories. Tell your story.

Hear the Stories Behind the Memories

Press the buttons to hear Wilson County 4-H'ers share some of their favorite memories!

Every story is different. A project. A competition. A new friend. A big accomplishment. A challenge they overcame.

Those little moments add up.

The skills you collect.
The challenges you overcome.
The people you meet.
The memories you make.

Together, they create a 4-H story worth telling.

What Is 4-H?

4-H is a youth development program for ages 5 through 18 where young people learn by doing.

Youth can explore all kinds of interests, including:

Animal Science • STEM • Healthy Living • Cooking • Leadership • Public Speaking • Environment • Arts & Creativity

There is no single 4-H adventure.

Your interests shape your path. Your experiences power you up. Your memories create your story.
