2018 Chick Chain 4-H Show and Sale

— Written By
The Wilson County 4-H Chick Chain is a program where participants (5-18 years old) raise up to 5 pullet chicks all from the same order for the show and sale in September. They learn about the backyard poultry industry and flock care first-hand. The program begins with registration in March and concludes with the project record book in October.
Important dates for 2018:
Thursday, September 6, 6:30 p.m.–Workshop to learn how to show your bird, how to pick out the best bird in your flock to show, and how to prepare your bird for the show. If you can, bring a bird in a carrier to practice with–if you are unable to, you can watch others. This would be a good refresher for those who came last year or for new showmen.
Sunday, September 16-–Chicken check-in at the fairgrounds 3 p.m.
Wednesday, September 19— The show will begin at 5 p.m. The overall champion show will be first, followed by showmanship (Cloverbud, Junior, Senior). The sale will start no sooner than 7 p.m. Make sure you encourage buyers to be there no later than 7 p.m. so they don’t miss out on the first bids! Also, the grand champion sells first and sets the high price for everyone else.
If you purchase a bird, please make arrangements to take it home that night.
***There is a $50 penalty due by September 15, if you decide not to bring back one of your pullets for the show/sale. If you had complete flock fatality, you should have let the 4-H office know when it happened to be exempt from this fee.
** Project Record Books will be DUE October 1!
Complete the age-appropriate forms below (age as of January 1) and place in a 3-prong folder.
