Your Life–Your Health
Wilson County 4-H has partnered with the Wilson County ABC Board to educate young people and adults on underage drinking, substance abuse, and stress prevention. An ongoing effort is being made to reach young people and adults across the county to reduce the risks/outcomes associated with drinking, smoking, opioid use, stress, and unhealthy eating habits.
A pilot program was conducted in the summer of 2017. As a result, 87% of all participants (those that attended any number of the 5 workshops) increased their knowledge on drugs, alcohol, stress, healthy foods, and communication with adults. Other feedback indicated increased skills in talking friends out of trying drugs, choosing healthy behaviors to handle stress, saying no when offered illegal substances, and talking with adults about peer pressure. Measurable behavior changes included: thinking how using drugs or alcohol will affect his/her future, setting short- and long-term goals, focus on learning at school, managing stress in positive ways, and helping other avoid drugs, alcohol, unhealthy eating habits, and stress.
Classrooms, youth groups, or other organizations interested in having a member of Wilson County 4-H staff come talk to middle school, high school, or adults on these topics, please contact Jessica Harris at (252)237-0113 or email@example.com.
